Vibrant, Informative Essay Collection

In this expansive collection of essays from a pioneer of the Art Therapy profession, Junge draws on her vast experiences from a career of over 40 years. These essays, which have been published widely, are reunited here, and blended with many new and vibrant ones. They are lively, well written, opinionated, and full of a refreshing brand of social activism. While most authors of art therapy books depend on case studies from their clinical practice, Junge offers us her personal feelings, opinions, experiences and knowledge. As a reader, I couldn't help but become involved with her thought processes. The essays cover subjects ranging from art therapy and social activism; feminism; the AIDS quilt and the Viet Nam Memorial as representations; art therapy and aging; case studies of artists Frida Kahlo and Diane Arbus; the perception of doors in 20th century art, and more.
Few art therapists are as willing to question the status quo and delve this far below the surface. These essays are clear, vibrant, engaging and full of the amazing insights Junge is known for. They challenge me to be more daring of thought, willing to go out on a limb - and stay there, and challenge me to question the status quo of the field.
