Dr. Hynan's book is an excellent resource for students as well as seasoned professionals involved in family law litigation. His coverage of issues is surprisingly comprehensive considering the modest length of this book. Dr. Hynan's focus on empirically-supported methodology for conducting child custody evaluations, coupled with a clear, concise and interesting writing style makes this book a valuable contribution to the field. His inclusion of psychological test data from a large sample of parents who were evaluated makes this book a frequently used resource for me. This book represents an excellent contribution to the field of child custody evaluation.

GOOD BUY

Take it from someone who has passed the board. You only need two books Lippincott & Kaplan. I'm selling both mine. Whatever you score in the practice tests will be almost equal to what you will get on the board. Good for sizing yourself up before taking the board. I cut off at 75Q. Take my advice if you are running out of time. Study concurrently x 5hrs QD x 8 weeks. Mosby & Davis are good while your in school, but not for the exam.

This book is OLD, but usable

I didn't notice that this book was published in 1994 when I bought it. When it arrived, I obviously figured this out. The book itself looks like it will be helpful, because even though it is old, most of the information is still pertinent. The disk, however, is a different story. It is a 3 1/2 inch floppy disk and most of the information on it is not compatible with today's computers. When I saw the program that I was able to pull up, I felt like I had been warped back in time. Bottom line: If you can get a good used price on the book itself, its probably worth it. But don't plan on the disc being of much use.

This book was wonderful. This book helped me to understand what I was dealing with and that I am not alone. I have not been able to locate another book that describes with as much details as this one has. The author gives new insight on how to relate with sexually abused children and innovative therapy procedures. Overall, a Godsend of a book!

No Ordinary Life

I am rearing two young boys who were brutally,sexually abused. They have been in counseling for 2 1/2 years. The counselors are great, yet they do not address the sexual abuse. Their intro to all counseling with the boys is "We know that you have experienced horrible things but you must control your anger and not take it out on those around you." The whole experience has been frustrating. I have been constantly searching for answers in effective ways to help these boys. When I read "No Ordinary Life" I felt that most of the time I was reading about these two precious, but angry and confused, boys. I now feel like I have a blue print by which to judge their current counseling, and to seek out counseling by someone who will truly counsel and direct our boys in a way that will honestly help them to live their lives and acknowlege verbally the abuse, putting themselves on a path to improve their lives. When I bought the book I thought it was a little "pricey"; however, I now know that it was worth one hundred times more than I paid. If the option existed, I would give the book ten stars.

I really like this book

I'm still not done reading this book, but I just wanted to share my thoughts: I really like this book. It is well written, it is full of case studies and examples, and it gives solid reasons behind the theories it suggests. This book is probably too heavy to give to children suffering from sexual abuse, but that isn't its intended audience. As a Child Advocate, I feel comfortable giving a copy of this book to the parents I deal with on a day to day basis with the questions of, "How could this happen to us?" "Why didn't I notice anthing was wrong?" and "What can I do to help my child?"

I HATE fenced-in taste buds! Besides the oft-repeated statement of nutritionists that a balanced and varied diet assures a better chance for one to obtain all of the needed nutrients, eating can and should be fun and interesting. The special "limited food and drink" aspect of a prescribed diet can be either a prison of restrictions or a challenge to make food special and delightful, albeit a different manner of eating-providing of course we are not like the man who told me, "I don't like pumpkin pie. I have never eaten any, but I can't stand it."

Delicious and Easy Rice Flour Recipes, a sequel to Gourmet Food on a Wheat-Free Diet, is a continuing exploration and development of the use of rice flour as a basic flour. The recipes developed for this book have eleven and a half years experience in rice flour cookery behind them-some 12,593 meals prepared and enjoyed, meals based upon rice flours supplemented by corn, soya and potato flours. Throughout this period (I am on this diet by preference and interest, not from need) food was continuously evaluated and compared with wheat counterparts (our world's standard).

Rice flour cookery is unique in the world, although it is estimated that rice (whole grain) is the basic food for over one third of the world's population. When its strengths and weaknesses are explored and understood, rice flour supports a diet both delicious and nutritious.

Individuals who have been told to eliminate wheat, rye, barley and oats (the grains which contain the offending gluten) will find this new way of eating broad and varied-an adventure not a deprivation.

This is a how-to cookbook, the only one of its kind for rice flour cookery. It is an attempt to free its users to make up, adapt and adjust recipes as I have done.

From soup to angel food cake, from pasta to foreign or Old World dishes, from leftovers made into a fast and delicious soup in the blender, from glamorous crepes to master recipes, I have attempted to unfold for you the secrets of the use of rice flour as a basic flour.

The Japanese believe that food should be prepared by doing honor to the essence of the materials chosen. When rice flour is prepared by doing honor to its essence, one's taste buds are happy; when ingested, one's stomach is happy also.

Sample recipes
Pimiento Cheese Sauce

Ingredients: 1/4 cup butter or margarine, 1/2 cup chopped mushrooms, 1/2 cup brown rice flour, 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese, 2 cups milk, 1 thin slice cooked ham for each serving, 3/4 teaspoon each salt and pepper, 2 tablespoons finely snipped pimientos, 1 poached egg for each serving

Bake 3 pancakes for each serving, using about 2 tablespoons per baking. Keep them warm in a 225 degree oven. Do not stack them. Cover with foil to prevent drying out.
Melt butter or margarine, add flour and stir until smooth; stir in milk, salt and pepper, add pimientos, mushrooms and cheddar cheese. Stir gently until the cheese is melted and blended. On each dinner plate stack 3 buttered pancakes. On top place 1 thin slice of cooked ham, cover with cheese sauce and top with a poached egg. Serve hot immediately. Nice to garnish with a sprig of parsley.

Hot Cider Syrup

Ingredients: 3/4 cup apple juice, 2 tablespoons butter or margarine, 3/4 cup brown sugar, Pinch of cinnamon, 1/2 cup corn syrup , Pinch of nutmeg

If the apple juice is lacking in tartness, add 1 teaspoon lemon juice; combine apple juice, brown sugar, syrup and butter; bring to a boil, reduce beat and simmer for about 15 to 20 minutes or until of medium syrup consistency.

Brunch or Lunch Stacks

Ingredients: 1 cup brown rice flour, 2 teaspoons potato flour, 1 cup corn meal (yellow), 3 eggs, 1 tablespoon baking powder, 1/2 cup cooking oil, 1 teaspoon salt, 11/2 cups milk, 1 tablespoon sugar

Sift together the brown rice flour, corn meal, baking powder, salt, sugar and potato flour into mixing bowl. Add eggs, oil and milk and beat until blended and smooth.

Chicken Kiev

These are not easy to make but then the best things in life require effort-and these can be rated among the best.

Ingredients: 3 large chicken breasts, halved or 6 small, boned and skinned, 2 tablespoons butter or margarine, 1 cup chicken broth, 4 ounces mushrooms, sliced, 6 thin slices of ham, 1/3 cup sauterne, 1/2 pound Swiss cheese cut into 6 sticks, 2 tablespoons brown rim flour, 1/2 cup brown rice flour, and toasted, sliced almonds (optional)

Bone, or have your butcher bone, the chicken breasts, taking care to avoid mutilating the meat; place chicken between two pieces of wax paper, working from the center out, pound the chicken lightly with a wooden mallet to make cutlets about 'A inch thick. Sprinkle with salt, place a ham slice and a cheese stick on each cutlet; tuck in the sides of each, trying to completely enclose the ham and cheese; roll up as a jelly roll, skewer or tie securely. Coat the rolls with the brown rice flour and brown in butter. Remove to a covered baking dish. In the frying pan combine chicken broth, mushrooms, sauterne and flour and cook until thickened, using any brown crusty bits left over from frying the chicken. Pour over the chicken and cover dish. Bake about 1 hour at 350 degrees or until tender. Garnish with toasted almonds. Serves 6.

I ran across this book while waiting in the doctors office. I was thoroughly involved and didn't want to put it down when they called me in. I am not even that much into art except for my daughters great interest which influences me to a degree. I knew she would like the book. I went home and searched for the book by it's name and tons of stuff popped up. So the next visit to doctor, the receptionist was kind enough to make me copies of pertinent info that would help me locate on Amazon. The reason I got this particular book is that it not only talks about individual works but also goes into detail about the artist as well, including photographs when possible. I sent this to her and she was very exited about it. A great coffee table book for those interested in this subject!

I had this book for years, and it got damaged and had to be discarded. Luckily I found the replacement. I am an artist and have copied the paintings from the prints. That is how good the detail is. A great coffee table book, if you like Impressionism and buy a book for the prints.

Best Book About Lorenz Hart

I've read this book a couple of times because I love the lyrics of Lorenz Hart.
It is superbly written by people who knew him and worked intheatre their entire lives. Jan Clayton starred on Broadway many times: Showboat, Carousel, The King and I and Follies. Samuel Marx was a successful writer. The book is well written and a joy to read.

I read that book many years ago while at VICTORIA,B.C.where my sister lives.I had pick it up at a local library.It was actually the first real account of RODGERS and HART and their collaboration of twenty-three years(1920-1943),apart from DICK RODGERS's autobiography published the year before.Several passages of this book are about LARRY HART and his bout with booze that finally killed him at age 47.The story of how the show I MARRIED AN ANGEL was created is really something to read.Apparently,LARRY wrote half the lyrics of that show in one single night.If you like RODGERS and HART,you'll enjoy reading that book.There is only one problem:it was never reedited.Local librarys or used book stores are your alternatives.
